You’ll have a couple guys out for revenge !! Last Wednesday 20 players turned out for the
Singles League Handicap Cup. Tonight the final 3 players played the
tournament out. Videsh Sabharwal was in the final having beaten Keith
Walls, Claire Dormer & Martin Smith on the way to the final. The
one remaining semi-final to be played was between Vikas Sabharwal (last
season’s runner-up) and Rob Walsh (newly promoted from Division Two).
Many would of said it was likely to be a final between the Sabharwal
brothers. Rob
Walsh is almost guaranteed to put in a performance when he is
considered the underdog, but in a 3 frame pre-match warm up against
myself he missed chances in every frame and lost 3-0. I feared the
worst and suspected he wouldn’t get those chances against the likes of
Vik & Vid. With
the one frame start under his belt that he was getting from Vik, Rob
played some solid pool and missed very little and proceeded to pile on
the pressure by taking the first frame. Looking composed and focused
Rob went on to take the next two frames to win the match 4-0. The
final was much the same, Rob constantly playing to avoid getting
embroiled in a tactical battle with Vid, and trying to keep the frames
as open as possible. Again Rob took the crucial first frame to add to
the 1 frame start he was getting and again kept the pressure on. Rob
was solid throughout and turned down 50-50 chances to win frames. He
waited patiently for better opportunity’s. Eventually they arrived and
he wasn’t going to miss eventually taking the final 4-0. |
