Singles League Week 2 Results
Div 1 News: Scotty “The Dogs” Yardley was on good form last night chalking up two good 5-2 wins against Neil Cameron and then Keith Walls. It wasn’t such a good night for the any of the promoted players from last season’s Div 2, Gary Hoad lost twice, 6-1 to Dev Chadha and 5-2 to Martin Smith. Rob Walsh also lost to Dev 5-2 and John Young lost to Craig Wilson 4-3. Following his win over JY, Craigy then played Martin Smith and having slumped to 3-0 down proceeded to battle back to 3-3, Martin was at the table, Craig had the obvious bag for the black covered with two balls, Martin only option was to come off the cushion onto the black and kick the black in the opposite bottom corner. A real tough shot… but not to Smudger who knocked it in no trouble. Last week Dean Hardesty and Nick Weinel were involed in a match where every frame went against the break, I couldn’t remember seeing that before, now I’ve seen it twice in two weeks!!! Vikas Sabharwal and Paul (4-3) Maher did it last night, ounfortunately for Paul he broke first and ended up loosing 4-3.
Div 2 News: Pat Phelan got his campaign off to a great start with a 6-1 win over singles league debutant Steve Prior and followed this up with the same result against Claire Dormer. A bit of revenge I think in the latter of those two matches as Claire dumped Pat out of the Handicap KO Cup last time around. Claire was short on luck on the night as in the deciding frame against Jez Hill she potted her last ball and went in off with the black hanging and so lost 4-3. Odhran Bryne had to come back from 2-0 and 3-1 down against Trevor Dias to snatch victory in the decider taking the match 4-3. In the last match of the night Nick Weinel beat James Townsend 4-3, Nick had been 4-1 in front. Shaun Tuffnell was leading 2-0 against Lee Greenwood before Lee levelled at 2-2, Shaun then took the next two before Lee took the final frame for a 4-3 defeat.
Div 3 News: Tom bounced back from his narrow 4-3 defeat to Tony last week with a convincing 6-1 win over Singles League debutant Matt Gates 6-1. Tom also recorded a solid 5-2 victory over Elliott later in the evening, and now tops the table after three matches. Level on points with Tom is Tony following his three wins from three matches all of them 4-3 wins the latest ones against Jason Hawkins and Elliott. John Barnett kept in touch with the leaders with a narrow win over Matt Gates but John had been 3-0 & 4-1 up so the two late frames he lost may haunt him at the end of the season. In the final match of the night Ann Middleton led 3-1 after being 1-0 down, but her opponent Mark Murphy battled back to level the match 3-3 before Ann snatched the final frame to take the match 4-3
